The Reodica Assignments
by, Paul Collin ( Host, of the: Unwanted Publicity Intelligence websites and webpages )
WASHINGTON, D.C. - August 2, 2021 - The Reodica assignment, was to protect an international business financial Trader who died after controversial circumstances involved several governments.
Ner J. Reodica was more than a State of Tennessee private investigator assigned to handle bodyguard security for an Indonesia man named Dr. Edison Damanik ( DOB: 31JAN30 - DOD: 31JAN96 ) who died from mysterious circumstances.
Ner Reodica’s father Ner Cesario Penalosa Reodica (aka) Amang Ner had his assignment: Commissioner for the Republic of the Philippines Securities and Exchange Commission ( PSEC ) held that position through four ( 4 ) Presidencies of the Republic of the Philippines ( See More - Further Below ).
The Dr. Edison Damanik Case Situation -
Dr. Edison Damanik had 'his assignment' too.
In 1988, Ner J. Reodica met Dr. Damanik in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Secretly, and since 1984, a significant quantity of multi-national high-value banking treasury financial instruments and 'private bank legacy heritance financial instruments' were designed, produced, released, distributed and moreover, circulated internationally through an 'underground network of financial Traders' whom were especially selected to receive these curious certificated deposit ‘notes’, ‘bonds’, 'certificates of deposit' and ‘guarantees’ through a man named Dr. Edison Damanik who oversaw such through a myriad of privately held foreign Trusts and Foundations formed to hold those instruments where he ( Dr. Edison Damanik - See More - Further Below ) plus, others as 'designees' so-chosen named 'Authorized Signatories' and / or 'Holders’ whom were 'not physical asset holders' and 'not named asset owners' but 'designated representatives' of 'high-value illiquid bank paper high-value financial instruments' were meant to be represented by through an extremely complex labrynthian and lengthy title chains for the actual high-value assets.
So complicated, was the paper asset chain of entitlements, a flow chart diagram accompanied a detailed set of instruction pages.
The reported cumulative total of these assets were valued in excess of $1,000,000,000,000 Trillion ( USD ) dollars , an amount that many financial professionals and government officials simply laughed-at because of what appeared to be such grandiose false claims however, a few whom were not laughing seemed to know something more about such but refused to share so much as one comment; one way, or another.
Rumors ensued concerning this subject as being from sheer lunacy to sophisticated counterfeiters based on the island of Java in Indonesia trying to perpetrate up-front fee fraud transactions, which saw a few of the instruments being circulated through independent offshore banks around the world and cyberspace too.
In lieu of the mysteries surrounding these instruments and colorful people whom sought to try and use, steal and return them for profit where there have been at least three ( 3 ) reports surrounding many of those same instruments, which periodicly disappeared, wherein two ( 2 ) of those cases ( to-date ) saw many peoply arrested and charged with federal criminal offenses for handling them, just as mysteriously disappear and without any prosecution whatsoever.
So, what’s behind the rumors, and is there any ‘truthful proof’ as-to any further information shedding more details into the subject of legacy high-value financial instruments?
Perhaps, Ner J. Reodica may someday shed more public light on those subjects and individuals, where the question, is: "Does Ner J. Reodica possess any enlightenment as-to such?”
In the meantime, the following report entitled, 'The Reodica Assignment' ( herein ) not only outlines well-documented 'official facts', 'documents' together with additional 'research notes' plus, introductory information surrounding the even-more suspiciously related foreign case of a Lebanon businessman named 'Anthony Hamod'.
The 'Anthony Hamod' Case Brief -
This case situation dovetails directly in-to what decades later surrounded - in yet an additional in-depth detailed report entitled, 'UBS Admits Bullion Certificate Worth Billions [ http://unwantedpublicityintelligence.blogspot.com/2021/07/ubs-admits-bullion-certificate-worth.html?m=1 ] about the other foreign federal case in Australia involving the exact same foreign legacy high-net worth financial instrument Certificate of Deposit ( CD ) of Platinum bulllion holdings valued at $33,000,000,000 naming the Union Bank of Switzerland ( UBS AG ) plus, decades later involving a Lebanon businessman Anthony Hamod whose interactions - according to official federal transcripts, involved a 'then-active' U.S. Central Intelligence Agency ( C.I.A. ) Special Agent plus, more.
According to numerous public press media report accountings, Dr. Edison Damanik and other individuals associated with this particular $33,000,000,000 Billion ( USD ) valued foreign instrument for Trading; a topic only rarely published in snippets and brief mentions although unpublished with any great in-depth details; something, which 'this report ( herein )' and its 'related companion report' ( UBS ) seeks to remedy for the sake of better public knowledgeability.
Reportedly, Dr. Edison Damanik was a rather colorful individual claiming to be an international "Trader" and “Assistant Monitor” overseeing special circumstances surrounding an Indonesia 'Ministry Of Finance' whereupon later, Dr. Damanik saw his own activities go awry through a series of problematic legal issues ending with the climax of his death shortly after leaving Austin, Texas and arriving back at his home in Indonesia.
Researching 'Multiple Individual' Details' And 'Case Backgrounds' -
During 1991 In Austin, Texas, Dr. Damanik became a U.S. District Court federal criminal ( Case Number: A-91-CR-107 filed July 8, 1991 ) defendant relating to his having arranged a $33,000,000,000 (USD) billion dollar value Platinum bullion international certificate presented to a U.S. Federal Reserve Bank whereupon shortly later he was arrested, by U.S. Secret Service Special Agents, and subsequently held incarcerated for 9-months however, mysteriously had his U.S. federal court criminal case dismissed on April 1, 1992 by that federal court case prosecutor Assistant U.S. Attorney Sharon S. Pierce whose simple one (1) page "Motion To Dismiss" - filed on behalf of the U.S. government - saw all its federal criminal charges ( previously levied against Dr. Edison Damanik ) dropped. Why, after America news media reports sensationalized that case arrest and then never bothered to publish that case outcome?
Was this a U.S. federal criminal case where “criminal intent” appeared to be lacking or, was something more sinister involved? Could the U.S. federal arrest of Edison Damanik have been a ‘mistake’? If so, what type of U.S. government 'mistake' allows - for a 2nd time - the same $33,000,000,000 (USD) billion dollar value platinum bullion international central bank certificate to 'reappear' 2-years later - in an Australia government federal criminal case involving Sydney businessman Anthony Hamod ( Lebanon )? The certificate was 'not' a copy of what U.S. federal prosecutor Assistant U.S. Attorney Sharon S. Pierce returned 2-years earlier to the U.S. Department of the Treasury but the exact same $33,000,000,000 (USD) billion dollar value platinum bullion international central bank certificate that had somehow been removed from the U.S. Treasury Department and then put back into international distribution again.
The public may begin to wonder what’s going on with all these certificates of high value by looking at this next federal criminal case (below), which occurred about 2-1/2 years after the Dr. Edison Damanik U.S. federal case was dismissed.
Beginning in July 1994, the following situation occurred in Sydney, Australia:
1.) Anthony Hamod ‘saw a $33,000,000,000 billion (USD) certificate presented to a bank’;
2.) Anthony Hamod ‘certificates came through Dr. Edison Damanik’;
3.) Anthony Hamod ‘was arrested by federal agents’;
4.) Anthony Hamod ‘was held 9-months in jail’; and,
5.) Anthony Hamod ‘had his federal case dismissed’.
The Australia federal criminal court case, involving Anthony Hamod ( DOB: 26AUG50 ), is a matter of public record.

More Reodica Family Relatives -
NAME: Elise L. Reodica [ i.e. 'wife' of Ner J. Reodica ] - age 40;
RESIDENCIES: Madison, Tennessee ( USA ); Oxnard, California ( USA ); Pomona, California ( USA ); Diamond Bar, California ( USA ); South Pasadena, California ( USA ), and Sun City, California ( USA );

NAME: Mark Reodica [ i.e. Brother or Nephew, of: Ner J. Reodica ] age ( unknown );
RESIDENCIES: Santa Monica, California ( USA ); El Segundo, California ( USA ); and, Manhattan Beach, California ( USA ).
The 'Ner J. Reodica' Background -
Ner J. Reodica was a ‘bank employee’, ‘law school student’, ‘licensed private investigator’ ( State of Tennessee, USA ), and ‘businessman’.
He is known as a 'Guro Master' for a homicidal martial art that attacks people with edged ( i.e. point and blade ) combat weapons ( e.g. similarly akin to Ghurka knives, throwing stars, etc.) based on a Filipino martial art known as ESKRIMA; an advanced martial art formerly known as 'Panlaban Sa Tulisan' [ ‘Bandit Of Death’ ] (fka) 'Laban Pantulisan' [ ‘Death Banditeer’ ], now known as 'Laban Tulisan' [ ‘Death Kill’ ].
He operates a martial art organization known as LUISIANA LAGUNA ESKRIMA LABAN TULISAN BROTHERHOOD, associated with ESKRIMA.
He teaches individuals to become ‘instructors’ of his family’s Filipino-American martial art known as "Laban Tulisan [ ‘Death Kill’ ]," claiming its successful practitioners who attain this highest level of Filipino-American martial art training are 'battle ready' to use 'point' and 'blade' weapons, the principles of which are interestingly reported as “not designed for sports or competition”.
This particular Filipino martial art Laban Tulisan [ ‘Death Kill’ ] grew from a martial art combat system that began in The Philippines during the early 19th Century ( 1845 ) out-of a village named Luisiana in The Philippines mountain of Laguna that saw both The Reodica Family and The Romulo Family took the even-older hand-to-hand pointed blade combat technique from Spain and modified it in-to their own Filipino designed martial art, kept being modified into what is now known today as the Filipino-American Laban Tulisan [ 'Death Bandit’ ] martial art method of killing other individuals.
During 1988, while Ner J. Reodica traveled to The Philippines, he additionally travelled to Jakarta, Indonesia where it is believed he first met Dr. Edison Damanik.
The Dr. Edison Damanik Case -
In 1991, Dr. Edison Damanik and his wife Epe Purname Damanik were reportedly picked up in California by Ner J. Reodica who was The Damanik Family private personal and foreign business security guard - within America and overseas - who traveled to the State of Texas ( USA ) to meet a man named Tommy Lee Buckely ( whose partner's name was Louis Driver ), for the purpose of ‘their’ presenting to CITI BANK officials in Amarillo, Texas ( USA ) what appeared to be a ‘U.S.-issued international heritage certificate of obligation of high-value specifically named as an “FCD International Certificate BLC CD US Treasury BNC TLD Federal Reserve Note BC International Transaction” banking 'certificate'.
That one ( 1 ) certificate of obligation ( alone ) was reported by federal investigators to be valued at $33,000,000,000 billion ( USD ) and bore the ‘signature’ of U.S. Secretary of the Treasury ( James Baker ) along with the ‘print scribed name’ of the now-late ( deceased ) President of Iraq ( Sadam Hussein ).
On July 8, 1991 eight ( 8 ) U.S. Secret Service agents raided the Amarillo, Texas hotel room of Tommy Lee Buckely, Louis Driver plus two ( 2 ) other men resulting in their arrests. Later ( that same evening ), at exactly ‘midnight’ - two ( 2 ) Embassy Suites’ hotel rooms in Austin, Texas ( USA ) - occupied by Dr. Edison Damanik, Epe Purname Damanik, and Ner J. Reodica - were raided by U.S. federal agents who seized possession of numerous other 'national and international heritage certificates' of high-value financial instruments reportedly in excess of hundreds of billions of U.S. dollars consisting-of, amongst others, were:
- U.S. Federal Reserve Bank certificated notes / bonds;
- Japan bank certificated deposit; and,
- Switzerland bank certificated deposit.
Those high-value legacy era financial instrument notes, bonds, certificates and certificates of deposits were, estimated to be of greater value than the Switzerland bank documents, bore names of people whom are all now-late ( deceased ) individuals included, amongst others, named were the:
- President of Libya ( Colonel Muammar el-Qadaffi );
- President of Panama ( Manuel Noriega );
- President of The Republic of the Philippines ( Ferdinand Edralin Marcos ) who named Ner Cesario Penalosa Reodica ( the father, of: Ner J. Reodica ) - Commissioner of The Philippines Securities and Exchange Commission so-named by a total of four ( 4 ) Filipino Presidents.
Eyed suspiciously, is the fact neither Ner J. Reodica or Mrs. Epe Purname Damanik ( wife of Dr. Edison Damanik ) were ever booked by U.S. federal authorities on any criminal charges but were released shortly after being detained by federal authorities.
On July 8, 1991, Tommy Lee Buckely was arrested, held ‘incommunicado’ by federal agents, refused to make any phone calls from jail or contact any lawyer and even asked the U.S. District court federal judge for permission to call a lawyer and was still denied such, and after 1-week - with ‘no’ U.S. federal criminal charges filed against him - was released from imprisonment.
Interestingly, on July 8, 1991 Dr. Edison Damanik was finally 'arrested', held ‘incommunicado’ for weeks, 'indicted' on U.S. federal criminal charges in the U.S. District Court of Austin, Texas where 9-months later he was released from imprisonment after all federal charges dismissed and then allowed to return to his home in Indonesia.
Of further interest was Dr. Damanik was - at all times imprisoned not within a federal prison but rather within a ‘County Jail' facility, which mysteriously encountered an unusual outbreak of the 'Tuberculosis’ respiratory disease, which the press went on to report was in what 'no other U.S. jail or prison ever had'; whereupon, and within 3-years later, Dr. Edison Damanik died therefrom.
Ner J. Reodica told federal investigators that "Dr. Damanik was in the U.S. to 'help' the United States 'economically' as well as Indonesia" afterwhich, Ner J. Reodica disappeared from that federal case involvement as one of its witnesses.
The Martial Art Life of New J. Reodica -
Years later, in 1998, Ner J. Reodica was inducted into the Filipino - American martial arts group known as 'Comjuka - Kali'.
In 2002, Ner J. Reodica was discovered residing in California teaching The Reodica Family Filipino-American martial art of "Laban Tulisan ( i.e. ‘Death Bandit’ )."
On November 2003 Ner J. Reodica traveled to El Paso, Texas ( USA ) where he was found conducting a seminar for students studying the Filipino - American martial art known as 'Kali'.
On February 1, 2005 Ner J. Reodica was reported residing in Eagle Rock, California.
On March 5, 2005 Ner J. Reodica appeared operating an America Online ( AOL ) website, associated with an entity named THE UNITED STATES KALI ASSOCIATION INC., at: http://hometown.aol.com/nerreodica/myhomepage.html
On March 5, 2005 Ner J. Reodica had trained and certified private instructors who successfully completed his Family’s Filipino - American martial art 'Laban Tulisan' that ( in the Filipino language of 'Tagalog' ) translates into the English two ( 2 ) word meaning: 'Death Kill'.
Ner J. Reodica instructors continued training other individuals however, clandestinely under differently named 'martial art system names' whereafter, those trained were later discovered as 'members of special security entities' including 'government law enforcement agencies' too.
His trained instructor names, locations and positions ( then ), were:
1. Frank Tsutsumi ( Oxnard, California ) Chief Instructor;
2. Sergio Mercado ( Yahualica, Mexico ) Senior Instructor;
3. Michael Tagudin ( Artesia, California ) Instructor of SILAKBO SYSTEM of Laban Tulisan;
4. Zaldy Ramirez ( Los Angeles, California ) Instructor;
5. James Acevedo ( San Francisco, California ) Instructor of MANLULUPA SYSTEM of Laban Tulisan; Associate Instructor of Laban Tulisan;
6. Rocky Pardo ( Fountain Valley, California ) Instructor;
7. Douglas Scotland ( Ventura, California ) Assistant Instructor;
8. John Urbano ( Coeur D'Aliene, Idaho ) Assistant Instructor;
9. Brent Evans ( Corona, California ) Instructor;
10. Sari Evans ( Corona, California ) Senior Assistant Instructor;
11. Allan Eeastwood ( Dallas, Texas ) Instructor; and,
12. Craig Kenny ( Tustin, California ) Assistant Instructor.
The aforementioned named individuals are the then-only 'members authorized to teach the Laban Tulisan System martial art' based upon knowledge and understanding of that specific martial art 'application of the system'.
Former instructors, unnamed in the aforementioned list, may undergo re-evaluation ( by Master Ner J. Reodica ) should their re-instatement be sought.
Instructor Rocky Pardo ( listed above ) is an entity's contact person through a private Yahoo.Com Club website named 'ESKRIMA LAGUNA LABAN TULISAN', at:

MUÑIZ SCHOOL OF FILIPINO WARRIOR ARTS / MUÑIZ ARNIS -
Established in 2002, in response to a fellow healthcare worker’s desire to learn self defense - to feel more self-confident during her travels in Europe and night-time shifts at a hospital - I [ Guro Don ( Donald Muniz ) - see website reference link - immediately above ] informed her that I wasn’t teaching and referred her to a Chinese Martial Arts School whose instructor is very adebt at teaching self defense. She said she didn’t want to learn from anyone, except me [ Guro Don ( Donald Muniz ) ].
Also, being good friends with Master Beto Briseño, I [ Guro Don ( Donald Muniz ) ] was sometimes asked to do a demonstration of Filipino Martial Arts, after which I [ Guro Don ] would have people ask me to teach them Filipino Martial Arts.
I [ Guro Don ( Donald Muniz ) ] would always refer them to one of the other Filipino Martial Art teachers here in El Paso [ Texas ].
One of the Students, from Master Briseño's Tien Shan Si ( Sky-Mountain Temple ), insisted, pleaded and humbly asked me [ Guro Don ( Donald Muniz ) ] time and time again to teach him.
I [ Guro Don ( Donald Muniz ) ] told this Korean gentleman, a Specialist in the U.S. Army and a 2nd degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, that he did not need any help from me [ Guro Don ] !
But, I [ Guro Don ] am thankful neither one of these two ( 2 ) people gave up on me and their petitions were granted when I finally gave-in to their demands.
I [ Guro Don ] initially did not want to teach because I didn’t want to make my former instructor, Grand Master Gaudiosa Ruby of the COMJUKA - Kali Systems USA, angry at me and accuse me of teaching her system of Filipino Martial Arts.
I [ Guro Don ] also did not want to have 'just' another Filipino Martial Arts school, since there are at least four ( 4 ) other schools in El Paso [ Texas ].
So, what could I [ Guro Don ] do?
Well, I [ Guro Don ] had already been continuing my training in California with Master Ner Reodica.
I [ Guro Don ] had already attended seminars on different Filipino Martial Arts, and I [ Guro Don ] decided that 'my school' would be more of a 'Club'.
I [ Guro Don ( Donald Muniz ) ] make a good living as a Licensed Physical Therapist [ LPT ] Assistant, so my students would be asked to perform other duties in lieu of monthly dues or memberships. And, they are 'required' to attend and financially support all seminars that the school sponsors so, that we can have the benefit of some of the finest Filipino Martial Arts teachers come share their knowledge.
Within my first couple of months Punong Guro Steven Dowd of Arnis Balite came thru El Paso [ Texas ] and taught my [ Guro Don ( Donald Muniz ) ] students that evening.
November 2003, Master Ner Reodica came and did a seminar for my [ Guro Don ( Donald Muniz ) ] students.
And in-between the times when these and other Masters and Teachers of the Filipino Warrior Arts give us their knowledge, I humbly instruct my students with the little that I know of the Warrior Arts of the Philippines.
And so the training in the "Mandirigma [ i.e. Warrior ] Path" continues as long as my loving and compassionate God gives me breath.
Now, time-travel with me [ backwards in time ] to 1992.
I [ Guro Don ( Donald Muniz ) ] have been working in El Paso, Texas at Vista Hills Medical Center as a Licensed Physical Therapist [ LPT ] Assistant when I feel the need to meet my lifelong goal:
To go back to the study of the Martial Arts and maybe attain the rank of black belt.
So, I [ Guro Don ( Donald Muniz ) ] enroll in a Street Fighters Seminar - offered in 'Soldier of Fortune' magazine - to be held in the mountains of San Bernardino, California.
At this Seminar, the Main Instructor said, "This is 'Jeet Kune Do Concepts' but this technique is Filipino Martial Arts, and this technique is Filipino Martial Arts, and 'this' technique is also Filipino Martial Arts..." so, I got the message.
What I [ Guro Don ] really wanted to study is the very effective Martial Arts of the Philippines.
I [ Guro Don ] remembered that, in Northeast El Paso I [ Guro Don ] had seen a hand painted sign that read "Filipino American School of Combat Arts: Karate - Kali - Arnis - Eskrima" so, upon returning from my California trip, I [ Guro Don ] went in search of that Filipino martial arts school.
I [ Guro Don ] began my studies with Grandmaster ( Tuhon ) Gaudiosa Ruby, the only female Grandmaster of Kali in the World.
After 4-years, there were differences between my GrandMaster and myself [ Guro Don ].
And, although we parted ways amicably, I [ Guro Don ] am no longer considered a "Guro" 'by her' and 'do not teach any of her system' to my [ Guro Don ] current students.
All instructors in Comjuka Kali Systems USA are 'not to recognize me [ Guro Don ] as' or 'refer to me as' "Guro".
I continued studying Filipino Martial Arts with Master Ner Reodica in his Family's system: Luisianan, Laguna Eskrima - Laban Tulisan Brotherhood.
Plus, other wise men of character and heart that share the Warrior Arts of the Philippines so, that I can share with my students my love and knowledge of these Warrior Arts" - "laban - ulusin ng tineblas ! [ i.e. fight - pierce the darkness ! ]"

Brief History of Kali and Comjuka-Kali Systems -
KALI is an ancient Filipino art of self defense which was originated and developed by the Filipinos several hundred years before the coming of the Spanish to the Philippines. KALI is also known as ARNIS or ESKRIMA. KALI consists of different fighting forms with the use of different weapons: the single stick, double sticks, sword and dagger, dagger and dagger, and empty hands. Aside from these weapons, KALI also uses the Kama ( sickle ) and the Gonzo ( hay hooks ) which are the favorite weapons of COMJUKA.
KALI was the martial art that made the Americans invent the Colt .45 Automatic, just to stop a jurementado, a Filipino Muslim skilled in the art of KALI, from killing American soldiers during the Filipino-American conflict of 1900 in Mindanao island before the two countries had been allied.
KALI has hundreds of styles in the Philippines and is practiced throughout the country on Luzon Island, the Visayan Islands, and Mindanao Island where each province has its own style of self defense in KALI.
Some of the martial art styles are 'named after the founder' while other martial arts are named after the area / place where the style originated, such as:
- Toledo style;
- Batangas style;
- Pangasinan style;
- Bohol style;
- Cebu style; and,
- Pampangan style [ NOTE: Pampanga Province, in the northern island of Luzon, is where COMJUKA martial arts were developed and practiced ].
COMJUKA represents 'Combat Judo Kali', which was changed to 'Combat Judo.Karate' during the time of the Japanese occupation in World War II.
The Filipinos did this so, the Japanese would allow them to continue to teach the art.
COMJUKA had been 'practiced secretly' and handed down from father to son for hundreds of years by the Pampangoans, until the Japanese occupation.
COMJUKA is now returned to its original meaning 'Combat Judo Kali' by GrandMaster / Founder Tuhon Ruby as the forefather of COMJUKA had intended it to be.
The Supreme Master and Director of COMJUKA in the Philippines had a trusted student to whom he passed on his knowledge.
This student was a Grand Master who imparted his knowledge of COMJUKA only to selected students he put his trust and confidence in.
Among his selected students was Gaudiosa Swanby who is now Tuhon ( Grand Master / Founder ) Gaudiosa Ruby of the COMJUKA - KALI martial art systems.
Tuhon Ruby has trained in the art of COMJUKA rigidly under the Grand Master in Pampanga for many years until she mastered the art and was commissioned to promote and propagate the art of COMJUKA to people with good moral character for the purpose of self defense, self discipline, self confidence, and to promote good health.
Tuhon Ruby then founded the art in America ( USA ) and developed forms and a system of minimum requirements for each 'belt' ranking thusly, earning the title of Grand Master / Founder.
Tuhon Ruby taught the Security Police and Hand-to-Hand Combat course, at:
- Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines;
- two ( 2 ) military bases in West Germany;
- Cheyenne, Wyoming ( USA );
- Aberdeen, Washington ( USA );
- Tacoma, Washington ( USA );
- Ft. Lewis, Washington ( USA );
- Titusville, Florida ( USA );
- Wichita Falls, Texas ( USA ); and,
- Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland ( USA ).
During 1989, Tuhon Ruby was proclaimed the Queen of Filipino martial arts by Grand Master Leo T. Gaje in El Paso, Texas ( USA ).
Tuhon Ruby is a member of the National Kali Association Of the Philippines, and LAMECO Eskrima International headed by Tuhon Edgar G. Sulite ( author of 3 books on the Filipino Martial Arts: 'The Secrets of Arnis', 'The Advanced Balisong - The Filipino Butterfly Knife', and 'Grand Masters of Kali, Arnis, and Eskrima'.
Tuhon Ruby’s school is headquarters for the United States Kali Association Incorporated.
Tuhon Ruby is currently teaching the Pampangan art of COMJUKA, the art of LAMECO Eskrima, and Laban Tulisan in Texas.
She added other martial art system styles to her COMJUKA school after receiving permission from her Master of LAMECO Eskrima ( Edgar Sulite ) and Master of 'Laban Tulisan' ( Ner J. Reodica ).
She calls her school the "Filipino-American School of Combat Arts, COMJUKA / KALI Systems".
She teaches together with her husband ( Punong Guro Gary Ruby ); a Head Instructor with an 8th Degree Black Belt.
RESEARCH NOTES
Kali ~ Arnis ~ Arnis De Mano ~ Escrima -
Kali is the oldest known form of self defense of the Philippines and its use of weapons.
During the time of Christ, Hindu beliefs came to the Philippines from Malaysia.
During the 1400s of the 15th Century, the Philippines islands were inhabited by people from China, India, Arabia and other Nations who mixed with the original Negretos who settled in the Philippines.
In the Southern Philippines there lived mostly Muslims - known as the 'Moro' - whom used a wide variety of knives in their dance and other martial arts skills.
On March 6, 1521 the Spanish explorer Magellan arrived on the Philippines whereby April 27, 1521 he was killed on the island of Mactan. His discovery of the Philippines islands brought other Spaniards. After the Spanish occupation and the establishment of the capital city of Manila, many other Western nations came to the Philippines.
In 1896, about 400,000 Tagalog speaking people from Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines, revolted against the Spanish occupation which led to the provisional republic in 1898 when from this race of people describe their martial arts 'Kali' ( also known as ) 'Arnis' martial arts systems utilizing two ( 2 ) bladed weapons.
Training was originally conducted in total secrecy and sticks called muton replaced the blades for both safety and secrecy. Modern practitioners use rattan sticks up to one meter in length where techniques involve either one ( 1 ) or two ( 2 ) sticks in a continuous striking action against vulnerable parts of the body.
During the 1980's, point Eskrima was devised with a prescribed fighting area, a scoring system, and body armor in many cases and National competitions.
The prime target of an attacker in Eskrima is the hand or lower part of the arm because if a vital point is attacked, the reflexes of the injured person may still enable them to counter-attack and cause equal or greater damage therefore, the 'limb' or 'hand' holding the weapon is the target whereas, getting rid of the weapon equals far less of a threat.
During the late 1800s of the 19th Century when America soldiers occupied the Philippines, there were many Filipino fighters who wore 'red headbands', were armed with a blade and ran amok killing U.S. military soldiers who - at that time - were armed with a .38 caliber pistol handgun.
The "red headband," was worn by the Jurementado; Muslims, skilled in the martial art of Kali, signifying they would not stop fighting until they theirself was killed.
Thusly, the Colt model 1911 .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun weapon was developed to deal with the Jurementado Muslims.
Those events confirm the Eskrima policy to disarm the attacker first.
And, unlike Japanese martial arts, Kali students are taught to employ the techniques they are learning in a manner that seems natural to them, as opposed to a rigid memorization of very specific maneuvers that also prevent predictable counter-attacks against the Kali Warrior.
The psychology of Kali, Arnis, or Eskrima are radically different from most of the other martial arts. This could be partly due to the fact that for almost four hundred years, the Philippines were a conquered country and the arts were outlawed, unlike Japan or China where the arts were excepted as part of their culture and could be practiced openly. But in the Philippines, the art that existed dictated that the practitioner seize the opportunity of the moment, to strike back suddenly with disguised movements.
Arnis, originally known as Kali, centers around three ( 3 ) distinct phases:
The stick, blade, and empty hand combat.
The term 'Sinawali', a form of play or techniques, applied because the intricate movements of the two ( 2 ) sticks resemble the criss-cross weave of a 'Sewali'; a pattern used in 'walling' and 'matting'.
Three (3) principle Kali training methods include the muestrasion or pandalog, which teaches the artistic execution of swinging movements and striking for offense and defense in repetitive drills.
The Sangga at Patama or Sombra Tabak is where striking, thrusting and parrying - in a pre-arranged manner - are taught.
Also the larga muton, or labanang totohanan, where two trainees engage in freestyle practice, which is the ultimate phase of Arnis.
Two ( 2 ) key principles to be learned in Kali are under categories of 'physical' and 'psychological'. Under 'physical', the practitioner must develop speed of hands and feet and agility for rapid delivery and zoning, or evasion. Under 'psychological' principles, the student must learn to remain calm and composed, and ( above all ) develop the will to fight and win.
We believe in success, not failure -
The skills learned in this lethal art are, close quarter, medium range, and long range combat tactics as well as direct and indirect combat primarily utilizing the kahoy (stick), the Kutsilio ( knife ), and or the 'empty hands'.
These weapons, and of-course the empty hand techniques, are very practical in today's society for self preservation and the protection of others.
Kali has been around for centuries. It has been tested and proven effective and practical and also develops both the mind and the spirit for a healthy whole well being.
Historically, the Kali martial art system is the 'oldest form of weaponry in the Philippines'.
Kali comes from the word 'kalis', which implies the 'blade'.
The naturally graceful and harmonious movements used in this art are characteristic of the methods found in other Asian countries.
Kali is a very systematic art of combat fighting based in the science of 'strategy' and 'tactics'.
The fighting methods of Kali are ultra advanced so that its fighting values always remain new.
Kali does not only imply the use of the 'stick', 'blade', or 'empty hand' combat, it's also a reflection of the Filipino people’s 'history', 'philosophy', and 'culture'.
Majaphit Empire -
The Filipino people represent the strong segments of the Majaphit Empire ruling Asia from the 600s A.D. of the 7th Century to the 1400s of the 15th Century when they had a 'significant part-in' and 'made many contributions-to' civilizations of geographic regional Pacific Ocean land mass areas.
The practice of combat fighting with the use of the blade is part of their customs and traditions.
The blade was inseparable in their ceremonial systems.
The application of the theories into the martial arts skills and 'the will to live in freedom' gained great victories over Spanish and American colonizations and Japanese invasion of the Pacific.
There are over one hundred ( 100 + ) related styles in Kali with principles in combat all based on a pattern of angles, which all attacks fall in-to regardless of weapon styles.
A combat system of Kali, the Comjuka - Kali Systems, a close-quarter in-fighting method, is a combination of higher techniques of Kali.
Comjuka - Kali Systems put a tremendous emphasis on the importance of 'footwork'.
Theories of strategic defense, offense and counter-offense have been tested and proven effective and accurate in many different combat situations.
